Tara Nome Doyle – Down with You

On a Sunday in Kreuzberg, Tara sang a song and I was blown away. I got her number and a few days later we were sitting together with her father Derek, an Irishman, at the dining table of the Doyle family. Tara’s mother, Maria, is Norwegian. Like her sister Sunniva, Tara was born in Berlin and grew up there. I told Tara and Derek about myself and my label Martin Hossbach. After I had finished, Derek nodded and left the room. Tara sat down at her piano and played and played and sang and sang. Tara is 20 years old and has written about 200 songs in the last nine years. As I listened to her singing her soulful songs I thought of nothing.. and then I started making notes. Of course, I also wrote down references: »Florence! Feist! Adele!«. Tara likes Susanne Sundfør, Lianne La Havas and Damien Rice. Barely two years after our first meeting, Tara Nome Doyle’s first song – which she recorded with members of the group Isolation Berlin – was released on my label. It’s a love song and it’s called »Down with you«.
